The Wine Dogs

A visit to Sharp Rock has always been one with plenty of canine companionship. We have loved our six rescue dogs since 2004 and now enter our first year, 2015, without one to brighten a day at Sharp Rock.

We keep this page in dedication to our loving dogs.

Emma – 2011 took Emma from us at age 18. She was always a lady and we miss her.

Bo — Another one of our rescues, Bo loves life at Sharp Rock. He is the persistent but well-mannered beggar and gets more raves in our cottage guest books than we do. A featured dog in “Wine Dogs of America”. Bo left us in 2014.

Oliver — He came to us in the Fall of 2007 and we immediately fell in love. He is the most infamous of the SRV dogs having stolen food from many of our guests. A big lovable Bernese, we said goodbye to Oliver in 2014.

Gizmo — We lost Gizmo early in 2012, the sweetest of our dogs…there will never be another Berner like him.

Shadow — We lost Shadow to cancer after 13 years, simply the best and irreplaceable. We leave Shadow here at the head of the page because he was so special. We miss you sweet dog.

Trevor — The patriarch of the farm, Trevor came with the place. Once the “old man” at Sharp Rock, he worked the vineyard daily and walked with us for miles through the woods. He and Shadow are probably playing together somewhere.

“A great location, great wines and a superb host make for a wonderful rustic, “unplugged” getaway. We’ve been several times now to the winery and B&B and will keep coming back for the quiet ambiance, wines and hospitality. Trek up Old Rag and come back and soak your feet in the Hughes River while quaffing Jimm’s excellent Cab-based Virginia Rose; perfect for a summer day! Grill on the deck of the cottage, watching the sun sink over the mountains. Hike the Shenandoah NP trails. Catch up on your reading, and enjoy the wine dogs and wine cats…you’ll be glad you did…”
